Getting Started

The first step to learning how to fight in the battledome well is understanding the basics and layout of the battledome. After every move in a battle, there will be a box in the middle of the screen showing how many icons you did to your opponent and how many icons he did to you. Example below.

  1. You and your opponents hitpoints. These increase or decrease depending whats happening in the battle. When one reaches 0 / 0 then the battle is over.
  2. This is you and your opponents ability power. When you use abilities such as Heal, Burrow, Sink, etc. This % will decrease till it reaches 0. The stronger you do the ability the faster it will decrease.

  3. On the left is your Pets weapon attacks, pet attacks or pet abilities.
On the right is the damage icons you have dealt to your opponent
There are 7 icon types: is dark, is light, is earth, is physical, is air, is water, and is fire.
These icons help determine how much damage you do to your opponent. For example, if you have a weapon that does 2 icons, it won't do as much damage as a weapon that does 10 icons. The higher your pets strength the more damage it will do per icon.

  4. On the Right is your Opponents weapon attacks, opponent attacks or opponent abilities.
On the left is the damage icons your opponent has dealt to your pet

  5. This green area is your opponents defence section
On the left is the defence weapons & abilities that your opponent used against you
On the right is the defence icons your opponent dealt to your pet.

  6. This is the Damage your pet did to your oponent - this is subtracted from their current Hitpoints
  7. This is the Damage your opponent did to your pet - this is subtracted from your pets current Hitpoints
Training

There are many ways to raise your pets stats but the main 2 ways to train and raise your pets stats is through the the Mystery Island Training School and the Swashbuckling Academy

Mystery Island Training School

At the training school you can train your pet under 5 different courses (Only 1 at a time though), These courses are :

Level - Needed for abilities, species moves, and higher training at the Mystery Island Training School.
Endurance (Hit Points) - The more hit points your pet has, the longer it can last in the Battledome.
Strength - Makes your attacks do more damage.
Defence - Increases your Improved Defend, if you have it.
Agility (Movement) - Nothing at this time.

The following chart shows you the 8 levels of courses, how many Codestones each course will cost and the length of time it will take to complete each course. NOTE: Once your Neopet reaches level 250, you will no longer be able to use the training school.

Course Type Neopet Level Cost Length
Grasshopper 20 and Under 1 Codestone 2 hours
Basic 21-40 2 Codestones 3 hours
Intermediate 41-80 3 Codestones 4 hours
Adept 81-100 4 Codestones 6 hours
Advanced 101-120 5 Codestones 8 hours
Expert 121-150 6 Codestones 12 hours
Master 151-200 7 Codestones 18 hours
Grand Master 201-250 8 Codestones 24 hours

When you start the course, you will then be taken to the Current Course Status page where you will be shown which Codestones you will need to pay with. Collect the Codestones and return to that same page to pay for the course and start your pet's training. At the end of the course duration time, return to the Current Course Status page and click on the Course Completed button to see the results of the training. Sometimes your pet will do so good in it's training that it will be given a bonus stat increase! :)

Training Note: Here at the Mystery Island Training School, you may train your endurance to three times your level. However, if you wish to train any of the other attributes, you will need to train your level back up to within half of your endurance.

Example: If your pet is level 50, with strength 75, and endurance 120, and you wish to train in strength, you will need to get your level up to half of your endurance, which in this case would be 60 (120 / 2 = 60).

NOTE: Each pet can only be enrolled in one course at a time and once you click on the Start Course button, you can not withdraw your pet from that course.

Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy

The Swashbuckling Academy, which is located on Krawk Island, is similar to the Mystery Island Training School however, you pay for the courses in Dubloons, it takes longer to train your pet and the academy only takes Neopets up to level 40.

The following chart shows you the levels of courses, how many Dubloons each course will cost and the length of time it will take to complete each course.

Course Type Level Cost Length
Sea Urchin 10 and under
1 Dubloon
4 hours
Deckhand 11-20
2 Dubloons
6 hours
Pirate 21-30
5 Dubloons
8 hours
Cap'n 31-40
5 Dubloons
10 hours

When you start the course, you will then be taken to a Current Course Status page. There you will be shown what the course will cost. Once you have the Dubloon, return to the status page to pay for the course and start your pet's training. At the end of the course duration time, return to the Status page and click on the Course Completed button to see the results of the training.

NOTE: Again, each pet can only be enrolled in one course at a time however, at the Swashbuckling Academy you do have the option to cancel the course enrollment if you want to.

Some of other ways to raise your pets stats are as followed.

Kitchen Quests - Besides getting item rewards, sometimes your pet's stats may improve and it can even be cheaper than buying the Codestones and/or Dubloons for training. The ratio is approximately 2 to 4 out of every 10 kitchen quests will raise a random stat.

Treasure Maps - By completing and trading in Space and Underwater Map Pieces, your pets can gain levels although this will cost more than training schools unless you get the map pieces cheap or free through random events.

Scratchcards - Terror Trove and Faeries Fortune Scratchcards can increase your pets level but this is pure luck of the scratch. About a 1 in 20 chance of success.

Count von Roo's Deadly Dice - If you can roll a higher number than Count von Roo, your pet will gain a level. Be careful, if your number isn't higher, your pet will lose a level.

Mushrooms - There are certain Shrooms that by feeding them to your pet, will increase certain stats. They are:

Level Up Shroom = 1 level.
Strength Shroom = 1 strength.
Mega Power Plusshroom = Can raise defence, level and hit points. (NOTE: The increase can be 1 or 2 per stat or, sometimes nothing at all.)
Super Fast Shroom = Says it will make your pet faster however, it actually does nothing at all.

Beware that the Shrooms are extremely expensive and many times unbuyable therefore, not really worth the cost.

Neggs - Like the Shrooms, there are certain Neggs that can also increase your pets stats. There are four way to get these Neggs; the Neggery, the Shop Wizard, Trading Post and the Auction.

Cool Negg = 1 level, 2-3 of each hit points, strength and movement.
Super Negg = 1 level, 2-3 hit points and movement.
Spiked Negg = 2-6 hit points.
Snegg = 2-4 hit points, 2-4 movement.
Power Negg = 1 strength.
Basic Power Negg = 1 strength or nothing at all.
Silver Knight Negg = 1 defense.
Faerie Queen Negg = 1 hit point.
Radioactive Negg = Will increase a level of a random ability.
Plaid Negg = Can raise the level of a random ability BUT can change your pets color.

GOODLUCK Training!! :)
